Perplexity has unveiled Comet, its first-ever AI-powered web browser, in a bold move to compete directly with Google Search as the go-to platform for online information discovery.

At launch, Comet will be exclusively available to users subscribed to Perplexity’s $200/month Max plan, along with a limited group of early-access invitees from a waitlist.

The browser’s standout feature is its built-in AI search engine, which comes pre-installed and set as the default. This puts Perplexity’s flagship functionality — AI-generated summaries of search results — front and center, offering users faster, smarter answers without traditional search clutter.

Another key addition is the Comet Assistant, a powerful AI agent integrated into the browser. Designed to simplify everyday digital tasks, the assistant can:

  • Summarize emails and calendar events
  • Manage browser tabs
  • Navigate and analyze webpages in real-time

Users can activate Comet Assistant via a sidecar panel that opens on any webpage. This allows the assistant to “see” the content on-screen and provide helpful, context-aware responses or actions.

With Comet, Perplexity aims to reshape how users interact with the web — making browsing smarter, more efficient, and AI-first.
