Midjourney, known for its popular AI image tools, has launched V1, its first image-to-video generation model. Users can upload an image—either original or AI-generated—and receive four 5-second video clips based on it.
Like Midjourney’s image tools, V1 is accessible exclusively via Discord and is currently web-only.
With V1, Midjourney enters the competitive AI video space alongside OpenAI’s Sora, Runway’s Gen-4, Adobe’s Firefly, and Google’s Veo 3. While others target commercial applications, Midjourney continues to focus on creative expression.
The launch also fuels ongoing tensions in the media industry, as Hollywood and creatives raise concerns about AI tools potentially replacing human artists and using copyrighted content for training.
